The event, organized to remember the sacrifices made by soldiers, featured various groups and associations that came together to pay their respects.
The sombre ceremony kicked off with the laying of a wreath at the war memorial located in Woodvale Park.
From there, participants made their way to Northumberland Street, where they gathered to begin the parade.
The parade’s focal point was the Shankill Road Defenders Flute Band, leading the way up the Shankill Road towards the Shankill War Memorial Garden, nestled beside the Shankill Graveyard.
The service at the memorial garden was a poignant moment as attendees gathered to honour the memory of the 36th Ulster Division and all those who valiantly fought in the Battle of the Somme during World War I.
The Rev Colin Duncan solemnly conducted the service, guiding everyone through a time of reflection and remembrance.
The weather, with heavy rain pouring down, could not deter the crowds who had come to pay their respects.
Adding to the historical ambiance were participants dressed as soldiers and nurses from World War I, engaging in realistic re-enactments that helped transport attendees back to that critical period in history.
The sight of these re-enactors served as a reminder of the sacrifices made and the courage displayed by those who served during the war.
The parade and service were a touching tribute to the brave men and women who fought for their country during a time of global conflict.
Despite the inclement weather, the event drew a crowd of spectators, illustrating the enduring importance of remembering and honouring the sacrifices of the past.
As the ceremony concluded, it left a lasting impression on all in attendance, reminding us of the importance of never forgetting the sacrifices made for the cause of freedom.
